Portuguese cobble stones

The "Calçada à Portuguesa" is an ancestral art that has evolved over the centuries. It consists in a floor with small cobble stones broken by hand. This technique allows to perform simple or complex drawings. There are several techniques and application concepts that are chosen and adapted according to the project or installation accuracy. These techniques have been refined by artisans, known as pavers.

Over the centuries Portugal has exported this culture around the world. From Brazil to India, Macau, Angola, China and many other countries. Recently, "Calçada Portuguesa" was a candidate for Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This action aims to highlight an heritage of our ancestors that was disseminated throughout the world.

"Calçada à Portuguesa" is considered an art form. A form of expression used by many artists, architects and designers It's intrinsic value is a testimony to the Portuguese identity.

"Calçada à Portuguesa" uses different limestones. The main colors are white, cream, light gray, dark gray, black and pink. The main sizes are 4x5, 5x7, 9x11 cm. It's a product broken by hand and its dimensions can vary about 2cm on all sides. Depending on the project, the cubes can be selected to allow a more regular or more traditional floor. Finally, they can also be adjusted/broken by the artisan.
