Basalt is a volcanic rock or extrusive, resulting from magmas that consolidate to the surface, usually through the lava expelled during the volcanic eruptions. Magmatic rocks or igneous rocks result from the cooling and solidification of magma. If this solidification occurs inside the Earth, in great depth, the rocks that are formed are called plutonic rocks or intrusive rocks. It is one of the most abundant rocks in the Earth's crust.
