Travertine is a dense open-pore stone. We can get a very rich chromatic variety that can range from cream, brown, gray, orange to red. Is composed of calcite (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) and is formed by the evaporation of river and spring waters. It Is a very popular variety of limestone for its durability and resistance characteristics. It Is used in building construction, wall cladding or decorative pieces. Usually it is used with honed finish. When polished its pores are filled with resin that can be colorless (epoxy) or yellow-tone polyester. The best known roman travertine deposits are along the river Aniene, near Rome.
